I Can See Jesus!

Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:” 1 Peter 1:8

Wouldn’t it be wonderful to actually see Jesus? To be able to sit at His feet and listen to His words? To follow in His real footsteps as He explained the Word of God? Oh, what a blessing to be able to look into His face and see the love He has for us reflected in His compassionate eyes! Oh, to see Jesus!

While I know that one day, all of these wonderful moments will happen, I realize that I can see Jesus every day if I look for Him. I can see Jesus in the opening blossoms of the flowers as they stretch toward the morning sun. I can see Jesus in the red-headed woodpecker who bangs away on the tree without getting a pounding headache! I can see Jesus in the caterpillar who emerges from its cocoon as a transformed butterfly. “The flowers appear on the earth; the time of the singing of birds is come, and the voice of the turtle is heard in our land;” Song of Solomon 2:12

I can see Jesus in the silent snowflakes as they fall gently through the sky. I can see Jesus in the tall pines swaying ever so slightly in the summer breeze. I can see Jesus when the millions of glittering stars twinkle in the black velvet night sky. I can see Jesus in the ocean waves that advance to their designated point on shore and no farther. I can see Jesus in the powerful display of lightning shattering the darkness of the storm. Romans 1:20 states, “For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

I can see Jesus in the helping hand of a teenager as he holds the door open for an elderly lady. I can see Jesus in the contented face of a sleeping baby whose cooing delights my heart. I can see Jesus in the mother who puts a band-aid on a skinned knee and kisses her child, making everything good again. “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.” Galatians 2:20

I can see Jesus in the pages of the Bible. He is there from Genesis to Revelation. Jesus is the living Word. “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” (John 1:14)

I can see Jesus everywhere if I look for Him.

Open our eyes Lord
We want to see Jesus,
To reach out and touch Him
And say that we love Him.
Open our ears Lord
And help us to listen,
Open our eyes Lord
We want to see Jesus.

(from “Open Our Eyes, Lord” by Robert Cull)

Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad; let the sea roar, and the fulness thereof. Let the field be joyful, and all that is therein: then shall all the trees of the wood rejoice.” Psalm 96:11-12
