“Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.” – Psalm 37:4
When I was a young teen, I made a list of what I wanted in a husband. I can’t remember everything that I wrote on the list, but I’m pretty sure my soon-to-be hubby didn’t match many of the characteristics I thought I wanted as a young girl. However, God, in His great wisdom, gave me the best man to be my spouse before I ever knew John was the one who would fulfill all the desires of my heart! That’s how amazing God is! Not only does He know what is best for us, He also knows exactly what it is that we desire in every area.
God worked the same astonishing way when we moved to Georgia. When we were house hunting, I wanted a big house with a wrap-around porch for me and a finished basement in the event one of my in-laws eventually would need to come live with us. However, it was God who knew that my huge home would eventually come to house me and my husband plus our daughter and her family and not my in-laws! I didn’t even know that was my desire until they were moved in! What a blessing it has been to have my grandchildren living with me! My heart’s desire? Absolutely, but I didn’t even know it at the time!
The Bible says that God does more than we ever expect Him to do in Ephesians 3:20. “Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,” is the promise in God’s Word, and He always keeps His Word! How can I not delight in the One who loves me so much that He sacrificed His only Son for me so that I could live with Him forever in heaven? And then He gives me more! He has blessed me with more than I deserve, and I could never praise Him enough for His goodness to me!
How can I say thanks for all the things You have done for me?
Things so undeserved, yet You gave to prove Your love for me;
The voices of a million angels could not express my gratitude.
All that I am and ever hope to be, I owe it all to Thee.
To God be the glory, to God be the glory,
To God be the glory for the things He has done.
With His blood He has saved me, with His power He has raised me;
To God be the glory for the things He has done.
Just let me live my life, and let it be pleasing, Lord, to Thee,
And should I gain any praise, let it go to Calvary.
With His blood He has saved me, with His power He has raised me;
To God be the glory for the things He has done.
