Christmas Devotions – December 31st

Scripture: “This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” – Psalm 118:24

Observation: This entire chapter of Psalms praises the Lord for who He is and what He has done. From His enduring mercy to His salvation to His goodness to us!

Application: Looking back over the year, I can see so many ways that God has worked in my life and the lives of those whom I hold dear. From the small things to the big, God has been in every one!

Here are a few truths about God in the Scriptures in which you can rejoice daily!

  • God has plans for each one of us, and He will bring those plans to fruition.
    • For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” – Jeremiah 29:11
  • God is always thinking about us.
    • How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them!” – Psalm 139:17
  • God is always with us.
    • Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.” – Joshua 1:9
  • God directs us in the way He desires for us to go.
    • A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps.” – Proverbs 3:6
  • God will always help us when we call on Him.
    • God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” – Psalm 46:1
  • God comforts us in our times of need.
    • Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;” – 2 Corinthians 1:3

These are just a few of the wonderful ways God has been involved in my life this past year. There are so many more ways that the Creator of the universe, the Author of my Salvation, and the Sustainer of my life has been a part of my life since before I was even born! Jeremiah 1:5 records God’s words to the prophet, “Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee;”. He knew me and had a plan for me that He has been working faithfully in me since I accepted Christ as my Saviour.

With God in my heart and by my side 24/7, I am assured of an amazing new year! If you know Christ as your Saviour, you have that very same assurance! If you aren’t saved, why not ask Jesus to forgive your sins and become your Lord and Saviour right now? This way, you can have a wonderfully blessed 2026 as well!

Prayer: O Heavenly Father, when I look back on this past year, I am so grateful for Your presence in my life every moment of every day! There has been no place I have gone, that You have not been with me. There has been no problem or struggle in which You have not helped me. There has been no sorrow that You have not given me Your comfort. I am so blessed! I praise Your faithfulness, O God, and I rest in the knowledge that You will do the same for me in this next year. Thank You for the assurance of Your love, Your presence, Your strength… You are my hope for tomorrow! In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

He leadeth me: O blessed thought!
O words with heavenly comfort fraught!
Whate'er I do, where'er I be,
Still 'tis God's hand that leadeth me.

He leadeth me, he leadeth me;
By his own hand he leadeth me:
His faithful follower I would be,
For by his hand he leadeth me.
